The month that was September
So September came and went and saw me only updating this happy blog twice. Strangely enough it was probably one of the most eventful months of the year.
Here is a brief summary of everything that happened in September. Don't worry, more details on the NCMI 2005 LTT to come...
1. Worst disaster of the month
Rita went on a rampage across Texas directly after Katrina had been around the same area. Johannesburg experienced some strong winds of its own. Sorry guys, thats the best South Africa can reply to the US's Rita.
2. Funny moment of the month
Now this is to my detrament, but despite that, even I can appreciate it's funniness.
We were at a restaurant in Bloemfontein (Afrikaans, when directly translated is: Flowerfountain... don't ask) and the place as too full to fit us all in. A friend of mine, however came passed about 10 minutes later and was let in. (He has a reservation). Anyway, naturally, being the nice good people we are, we questioned him. This is how the conversation went:
JACO: How do you get to go right in and we have to sit out here in the cold?
ROBERT: [sporting cornrows hairstyle] You have to have a stupid hairstyle to get in.
ME: [removes ryan-atwood-type parker hood to reveal bald spot] Does this qualify?
ROBERT: I said stupid, not unfortunate.
Just on the note of Bloemfontein, a google search reveals at Canada has a Bloemfontein of it's own!
3. Good news/bad news moment of the month
We have been informed that all of us who have been on 3 year contracts or more will get our jobs made permanent by June next year. Those under 3 years will unfortunately not get their contracts renewed, and thus will be without a job end of this year. This means that for about 5 of us we will have permanency next year... for 12 other people it means no jobs. Honestly? I don't get it as its all so confusing and management are sending so many confusing messages out these days, no one knows what's going on. Still no sign on an increase.
4. Bitter-sweet return moment of the month
The OC returned for it's 3rd season beginning of September. Season 3 has been definately better than season 2 by a long way, but whether it will be able to sustain itself for a 4th season is a whole other issue. I would be pleasantly surprised if it does, but I'm not willing to bet any money on it. At this stage, it is now on hiatus for October since the Americans love baseball so much. Still don't get while a country that has like 5 billion channels needs to show baseball on all of them, but then again they also re-elected George W...
Pictures to follow...
